Just a random post. I think I drank too much coffee during the day and slept too much. It's midnight here and can't sleep. Spent the last hour counting the states of the US. Never had to learn them, and on the other side of the planet I never had to know them in the first place - especially when not being a native English-speaker. Nevertheless I was actually quite proud of the fact that I could recall 40 of them. If I had thought hard enough, might have come up with 4-5 more.

So yeah, still can't sleep and I am supposed to wake up in four and a half hours.

Haha!

There were some I missed that deserved some facepalm moments after I checked (New Jersey and Wisconsin) and there were two I had not known they were states (no offence, but Vermont and Rhode Island).

This is actually a lot tougher than it sounds. I consider myself rather geographically literate, and I was challenged when I tried to list all 50. I dare say you will find many Americans who would fare worse than you did. Much worse.

Correct :)

Unfortunately I cannot speak a word in Norwegian. I had a Norwegian-pattern jumper (aka Atari-reindeer) and when I had that on I used to talk gibberish to my wife that kinda sounded like Norwegian and it always meant "I love you". :)

Hehe... Just say "jeg elsker deg" (or Jai elskar dai) That's norwegian for I love you.

I guess so, since there's 50 of them. Most of the Europeans couldn't list all European countries either (which heavily include such "oddballs" as Andorra, the Vatican, San Marino, Monaco, etc.)

Andorra and San Marino are the oddballs people tend to remember... I'd say Montenegro and Moldova are more often forgotten.

From my experience for quite a few people in Western Europe, Eastern Europe is quite a blur (by default everybody is Polish coming from the East).

But then I have a hard time distinguishing most of the "-stan" ending countries in Asia.

Eastern Europe is rather Easy for us Norwegians, a lot of people come from there to seek work :) Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus (white russia), Poland.. you name it :) There is a reason I understand a bit of each language :) I used to drive a lorry/truck..

OK, now you have to name the state capitals of all 50 and then you can go to sleep. Bonus sleep time if you can name the capitals of all the Canadian Provinces.
